1969 Vespa
Super Sprint

From 1965, the Vespa 50 SS was introduced as a sporty variant within the ‘Small frame’ series, which differed from the previous models with a number of special features. Such features included the narrowing contour of the Legshield, a narrower and slightly lowered Handlebar, a narrower Mudguard and a Seat that folded backwards. The first series of the SS came with a Tool Box positioned between the seat and leg shield, which resembled a tank and was fitted with a pad at the top to support the upper body in a racing position and allow a closer riding position. Under this compartment, the spare wheel was mounted lengthways. The 50 SS was also fitted with rim caps painted in the same colour as the frame. The 50 SS, limited by Italian regulations to 1.5 hp for registration as a moped, was intended for export. In Germany, it could be ridden tax-free with a class IV driving licence.
Interestingly, the majority of Super Sprints were exported to New Zealand as individual parts and assembled there by Airco Ltd. in Newmarket.

The engine was derived from a model with a larger displacement and had 50 cc. Its power output exceeded the maximum limit of 1.5 hp applicable to mopeds in Italy, which is saw the SS50 made for export only. The four-speed gearbox was retained. Despite its performance, the engine was characterised by its smoothness, which is typical of this Vespa series. The carburettor occupied the same position as on the Vespa 90SS. An increase in performance was aided by a silencer specially developed for this model, which was mounted on the left-hand side at the rear. This chrome-plated steel silencer produced a metallic and sporty sound, which only enhances the SS 50.

This example is currently fitted with a 125 cc engine, but will be supplied with the original 50cc motor. This Vespa has also been fitted with ‘SS90’ badges, but the original ‘SS 50’ badging will also be supplied.

Italian made, and with a production run of around 2500 units or so, SS 50s were produced exclusively for the export markets. With a small production run and special components, the Super Sprint is a particularly sought-after Vespa, especially examples in this condition.

2002 MV Agusta
F4 750 Senna

An as-new example of the MV Agusta F4 750 Senna, launched in limited numbers to raise money for the Instituto Ayrton Senna, a charity founded by Senna to aid the children and young people of Brazil.

Power is delivered from a 750cc four-stroke four-cylinder engine, producing 101kW, coupled to a six-speed transmission.

Number 264 of the 300, this example was factory supplied to the original owner.

The Senna used the four-cylinder engine from the Evo 2 model, which was originally intended for an SPR version. The engine has been improved and made lighter in many of its basic components: it features a reworked combustion chamber, valves and springs, Mahle forged pistons moulded with jets of cooling oil, uprated cylinder heads, and a modified EPROM, which allowed the redline to be raised to 13,900 rpm.  The crankshaft has also been lightened considerably. Another significant development concerned the primary drive, which was shortened and equipped with a clutch reinforced with a brand new gearbox assembly with closer ratios. To further enhance these characteristics, this example has a race exhaust fitted, whilst also retaining the original road exhaust.

A substantial amount of the bodywork incorporates exclusive colour combinations of black and grey, and specially designed graphics, as well as numerous carbon fibre components. Distinctive red star-design wheels coupled with 50mm Marzocchi titanium nitride-treated forks are also present for superior road handling. Each bike is exclusively number plaqued. This example is believed to be 1of 3 in Australia.

Accompanying the bike will be its original owner’s manuals/instructions, helmet, gloves and tools, performance chips, cassette gears and as previously mentioned, the road exhaust.
